Kurdy Biggs is a counted canvas designer, teacher
and owner of Threedles Needleart Designs. Kurdy holds a Level II Teaching
Certificate from the National Academy of Needlearts. Her Geometric designs
have won numerous awards from ANG, NAN, EGA, TNNA and Woodlawn. She has
been published in Needlepointers, Needlepoint Now, and Cross Stitch and
Needlework. Kurdy has taught at National ANG, EGA, and NAN seminars and in
retail shops.

Rescent

Rescent – short for Rose Crescent Angel – is a study of Crescent stitches on Rose Gold painted canvas. We will bring Rescent to life using a stitch library consisting of variations of the Crescent stitch, along with Jessicas, Mistakes, and Plaited Ray stitches. These stitches will be worked with an array of lustrous threads that include Soiee Perlee, Petite Silk Lame’ Braid, and Elegance silks, Petite Very Velvet and Accentuate, Kreinik and Treasure Braid metallics. Rescent will be embellished with crystals and beads to make her glimmer like the angel she is. A Blue/Silver colorway is also available..

Dali’s Diamonds is named for the bending lines in the center row of our three-tier diamond shape. To further enhance this unique middle row, each stitcher will be able to add a metallic paint of their color choice, thus making Dali’s Diamonds individualized and eye catching. The Diamonds will be stitched with a variety of overlapping stitches that include Sprats Heads and Wrapped Eyelet stitches. Dali’s Diamonds will be stitched with Gloriana, Soie Perlee and Elegance silks, along with Accentuate metallics. Once the stitching is finished beads and crystals will be added to add depth and sparkle to this distinctive 3D piece.

A Trilogy of Stitches - Part I introduces the stitcher to a wide variety of stitches and stitch variations. Beginning with borders constructed of multiple Jessica variations, students fill the two center circles and then complete the end triangles using a stitch library that encompasses Twelve Point Star, Double Fan, Crescent, Padded Mistake stitches and others. A wide variety of silk and metallic threads are utilized. The unique shape is eye-catching wherever it is displayed. Crystals and beads can be added singly and in clusters to add dimension and sparkle to the finished piece.

A Trilogy of Stitches - Part II Part II will continue introducing the stitcher to new and unique stitches. Starting with the borders of multiple Crescent variations we will progress through the top octagon, on to the center diamond and finishing up with the second octagon. By using a stitch library that encompasses Crescent Star, Wrapped Eyelet, Crescent, Jessica, and Padded Mistake stitches w e will create a kaleidoscope inspired piece. Threads used include Gloriana overdyed silk and Princess Perle, Rainbow Gallery’s Elegance, Petite Silk Lame’ Braid, and Frosty Rays. In addition, Kreinik and Accentuate metallics and Soie Perlee silks round out the thread selection. Crystals and beads will be added singly and in clusters to add dimension and sparkle to the finished piece.

A Trilogy of Stitches - Part III - Part III will continue introducing the stitcher to new and unique stitches. Starting with the borders of multiple Jessica variations we will stitch the top arch, on to the center circle and finishing up with the triangle. Students will be able to arrange the elements of the piece as they desire. By using a stitch library that encompasses multiple variations of Swirls, Crescents, and Jessicas, as well as Padded Mistake stitch, we will create a kaleidoscope inspired piece. Threads used include Gloriana overdyed silk, Rainbow Gallery’s Elegance, Petite Silk Lame’ Braid, and Frosty Rays. In addition, Kreinik and Accentuate metallics and Soie Perlee silks round out the thread selection. Crystals and beads will be added singly and in clusters to add dimension and sparkle to the finished piece.

Blue Ridge Reflections

The design elements of Blue Ridge Reflections are based on my childhood growing up in the Blue Ridge. Throughout this design the stitches mimic various aspects of the region. Mountains, streams, flowers and sky all combining into a finished piece that resembles a stained glass design. 30 different stitches will be completed using a variety of threads named below all based around the Caron Collection Appalachia over dyed silk floss. Students will create their own design by attaching circles, diamonds or squares, stitched separately, onto their finished design.

Pearls and crystals and sparkles, oh my! In this elegant design you will explore a variety of stitches including Walneto, padded Mistake, Crescents and Sheaf. Using a bronze canvas as a backdrop and a palette of ivory and gold threads, you will transform it into a beautiful, opulent box reminiscent of times past. Once stitching is complete, over 350 Swarovski pearls and Topaz crystals will complete this striking piece which may be finished into a box or cube. The class will include finishing demonstrations for both a box and a cube.

Autumn Reflections is a complain piece to Blue Ridge Reflections. Come join me on a journey stitching a stained glass designed piece. Your canvas will be line drawn so that we can move easily from segment to segment as we stitch this piece that is inspired by Autumn in the Mountains of the Northeast. Our stitch library will encompass over 30 different stitches and variations that will be completed using a variety of threads based around Gloriana over dyed silk flosses Autumn Arbor and Cinnamon. Once the stitching is completed beads and crystals will be added for dimension and sparkle!

You'll Flip Over it Stocking

You’ll Flip Over It Stocking is an innovative way to stitch both a stocking and a contrasting cuff on the same canvas. Using a variety of Jessica and Crescents stitches the sock of the stocking will be stitched with Rainbow Gallery’s Capri, Elegance, Glisten and Treasure Braid and Kreinik metallics on a white/silver canvas. Then You’ll Flip It Over and stitch the cuff on the Gold painted side adding in white pearlescent threads for more luster and shimmer. Once the stitching is finished we will add texture and dimension with crystals and a variety of beads. You’ll Flip Over It Stocking may be finished into a working stocking that measures 4.5 ”x 6”.

Did you ever wonder how the designers ‘do it’? Participants will create their own unique design with instructor assistance. Starting with a diamond framework with six component stitch areas, students choose stitches taught in the course--variations of Jessica, Rhodes, Crescents and Sprat’s Heads—or select their own to fill in those stitch areas. When complete, the student will have designed 4 to 6 unique diamonds each consisting of 6 to 36 stitches. The diamonds can be assembled into a traditional two-dimensional diamond design or a cube for a frame weight or an ornament

The heart of Crescents and Crystals is composed of curves which originate from the numerous Crescent stitches in the design. These Crescents’ curves are woven into an intriguing pattern that also includes Walneto and Sheaf stitches. Stitched with silks and metallics Crescents and Crystals is embellished with 4mm crystals and beads to add depth and sparkle, this piece is sure to shine as an ornament or framed piece. The class will discuss thread variations for stitching a second rendering of Crescents and Crystals.

The gardens in Jessica Lane start out with spring and summer colors in a traditional garden layout. However, as fall approaches the garden colors have changed and the flowers have reverted to a more natural state. Jessica Lane’s gardens will be brought to life with a wide selection of Treenway Silks that include Harmony overdyed silk and ribbon, Tranquility silk cord and Zen Shen silk perle in a variety of colors. Accentuate metallics and beads will also be used to add a soft glint to the garden. Using a range of stitches such as Jessicas, Crescents, Sprats Heads and Wrapped Eyelet our garden will grow upon the canvas.

Have fun creating your own Pearl Frost crystal by starting with the Overlapping Sprats Head Star and expanding outward. Shimmering threads in tones of white and blue enhance the crystal structure; and the addition of 3mm and 4mm pearls add the perfect frosting. A library of thirty stitch variations allows students to change, rearrange, or invent new stitch configurations. The final frosting of Pearl Frost will be eight beaded spokes to be designed by students from an array of pearls, beads and crystals.

Would you like to create some stitched and wearable art in a day? Beads, baubles and bangles can help you accomplish that goal. We will stitch a cuff and pendant using a variety of stitches that include Crescents, Jessica and Sprats Heads. To make our wearable art shine, we will stitch it with stranded and perle silks along with metallics. Of course there will be beads and crystals added to the finished project because there must be sparkle in jewelry! There are three colorways to entice you into stitching beads, baubles and bangles. A finishing demonstration will show how to finish the 6”x1 3/8" silver plated flexible cuff and the 3” x 2” silver plated pendant.

Stitching Solitaire will expose the student to eleven different counted canvas stitches and seven techniques in adding bead clusters. Stitches such as Crescents, Jessicas, Sprats Heads, Plaited Rays and variations thereof, along with the Mistake stitch are used to create a diamond shaped, cross inspired pattern on Victorian Red or Green canvas. Shimmering white and gold threads from Rainbow Gallery include Petite Silk Lame Braid, Crystal Braid and Grandeur, along with Kreinik metallics are used to create a beautifully radiant ornament. To finish we will use beads and crystals in a variety of clusters to add depth and more sparkle to complete the piece. Finished piece measures 3 ½”x 5 ¼” on 18 mono canvas and may be framed or finished as an ornament.

A Tisket a Tasket, a green and yellow basket… Come join the class and stitch your own basket of geometric flowers. While stitching the leaves and flowers we will explore many variations of Jessica and Crescent stitches. The students will decide on the variations they wish to stitch into their baskets. The baskets will be brought to life using Treenway Silks threads, including Tangiers fine cord and ribbon, a variety of Zen Shin perle silks, along with Kreinik metallics. As a finishing touch 4mm crystals and beads will be added for dimension and sparkle.

Would you like to create an ort container/needle holder or a shimmering stitched gift box? The Golden Box will start as a painted box and we will add a stitched box top and center band using stitches that include Crescents, Jessicas and Sprats Heads. To make our box shimmer, we will stitch it with perle silk and metallics. Of course there will be beads and crystals added to the finished project, as well as a special button crystal used to attach the stitched top and pincushion to the box top. Students will have a choice of fabrics to sew the pincushion from and the instructions will guide you through transforming your 3” box into an ort container/needle holder or into a special gift box.
